Who is Lainie? And why is she traveling? Now that's a good question, and I'm not 100% sure I can answer that yet. But here's what I do know: I'm studying in the beautiful country of Deutschland (Germany) my senior year of high school; an entire 10 months and 4,000 miles away from my home town of Fredericksburg, Virginia. I am honored to have been selected as a Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange scholar- a full scholarship to have the experience of a lifetime and act as a youth ambassador in Germany. I'm keeping this blog to stay in touch with family, friends, college admissions officers, and to answer any questions someone might have about Germany, studying abroad, or anything else! Here are my German plans, or what I know so far:
I leave in late July for a few days in DC, visiting with the Department of State and seeing a few of the key DC sites, and then board a flight to my new life (!!!)
August will be spent in a German boarding school, attending an intense language camp as well as learning more about the culture with 49 other scholars (I'll try to get up a few posts during that time but it's going to be crazy).
I'll officially meet my host family at the end of August, and then start at a German high school- Gymnasium. My host family lives in western Germany, I have 4 host siblings and 4 host bunnies!
My goal is a post every 2 weeks, but maybe more often if I can! The beginning will be rocky because I'll need to focus on my German and my college applications, but fingers crossed I don't get too stressed.
Please don't be shy- leave comments and lots of love!
